Our Waterways Are Under Threat
SIGN OUR PETITION AGAINST DEFRA'S CANAL CUTS...

Chris Huhne MP, Liberal Democrats' Environment Shadow Secretary, has launched a new campaign against Defra’s environmental budget cuts and their impacts upon Britain's canals and waterways. 

A £4m (7%) cut in the British Waterways budget in the last year has led to cuts of 180 jobs which put our canals and waterways under threat. [Source: Answer to Parliamentary Question from Chris Huhne MP].

We believe the Government's cuts to Britain's waterways are an incredibly foolish false economy.
We urge the Environment Secretary, David Miliband, to reverse these cuts and to come before Parliament to reassure the country that the predicted further overspending by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs will not result in further cuts next year.
