Teignbridge Lib Dem Councillors were shocked to hear that taking garden waste to the tip is to be ‘taxed’ by Conservatives on Devon County Council.

Each bag of soil or rubble will cost residents £2 to dump at the tip under a new ‘tax’ from the County.   This action coupled to the closure of the Recycling Centre in Buckfastleigh is bound to lead to a huge increase in fly tipping.

All the Lib Dem Councillors and candidates for the May elections agreed that  “This will be a false economy, we will see more fly tipping than ever before.   Rubbish will be dumped in the country side around our village and will cost our local council even more to clean up.

If residents are being charged for bags of soil and rubble, it could mean even longer queues at the recycling centres with staff counting bags and then taking payment and giving change.

Compare this Tory Devon tax to Lib Dem led Teignbridge who are in the National Top Ten for Recycling and are the cheapest in the whole of Devon.   Devon calls itself the Greenest County but this will turn our beautiful countryside into a dump.
