At the request of the Mayor of London, the Government has decided to impose an urban planning designation on Rotherhithe, East Dulwich, Nunhead and Herne Hill.

Designating the area as ’suburban’ would mean that new developments would be 2-3 storeys high. The Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, has objected to the Council’s proposed designation, arguing that the area should be categorised as ‘urban’ - meaning that 4-6 storey high buildings could be built.

We the undersigned call on Ruth Kelly the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government to withdraw her direction requiring Southwark Council to designate Rotherhithe, East Dulwich, Herne Hill and Nunhead as ‘urban’.
