Lorely Burt MP and local resident Hilary Walker collect petition signatures at Shirley Station

Lib Dem MP Lorely Burt and local residents have launched a campaign to save the historic signal box at Shirley station.

The 100-year-old signal box is due to be demolished as part of a Network Rail restructure.

Commenting Lorely Burt said, "Many local people have told me how much they value this piece of local heritage.

Lorely has asked Network Rail to delay the demolition which is scheduled for October whilst alternative options are considered, including relocating the signal box to Tyseley Locomotive works or housing a small business in the building.

Local resident and enthusiast Hilary Walker has volunteered to maintain the lovely floral displays  at the front of the signal box herself.

You can show your support for the campaign by signing the petition below.

We, the undersigned, call upon Network Rail to reconsider the decision to demolish the historic signal box at Shirley Station
