Elwyn Watkins and David Ward MP are campaigning to save the cheque

David Ward MP has introduced a bill in Parliament to stop the banks from abolishing the cheque. Last November the Payments Council - representing all major high street banks - announced its decision to phase out all cheques over the next eight years.

Nearly four million cheques are issued each day. These plans would hit the elderly, disabled and housebound the hardest as well as affecting thousands of businesses and charity organisations.

Please back the campaign to save our chequebooks by signing the petition below.

We, the undersigned, petition the Prime Minister to save our cheque by reminding the banks of their duty to serve the customer - and not vice versa. The abolition without an adequate alternative will cause an inconvenience for small businesses, the charitable sector and many of the most vulnerable people in Britain.
