Northampton Liberal Democrats have launched a campaign to prevent cuts to the local heath service.
Labour ministers are forcing local hospitals and health trusts to cut back on services to meet a £37 million funding gap. To meet this cuts are being made to services including midwifery, elderly care and mental health provision.
At the same time, the Conservatives on Northamptonshire County Council have made cuts to services for the elderly, the disabled and valuable respite care.
These service cuts are the result of both the Conservative and Labour party's mismanagement of the NHS and local authority health service provision.
Already Northampton General Hospital has had to close wards whilst essential community facilities such as Nicholls House and Quarry House face the axe.
Parliamentary Spokesperson for Northampton North Cllr Andrew Simpson said:
"Costly Labour management schemes and central target setting have brought this on local people. If this is, as Labour Minister, Patricia Hewitt, said 'The best year for the NHS' I dread to think what it will be like in the years to come."
