Park Homes Fuel Poverty

Winter is on the way and if it’s a cold one we know how many people will be really worried about the bills they will be getting. For a lot of people steep price rises make heating literally unaffordable.

However while everyone finds paying heating bills hard there are some who certainly suffer more than others. Park home residents in particular face a tough challenge to heat their homes affordably because of limited heating fuel choices and the way park homes are insulated.

So it is annoying that people who live in park homes can’t get access to the government grants and schemes that aim to help reduce costs. Most measures under the Government’s fuel poverty programme Warm Front for example are not suitable for park homes. We don’t think that is good enough and so working with National Energy Action (NEA), who has been campaigning on this, we want to raise this issue both in Parliament and locally with the council.

As a start we are hoping that the NEA and Winchester City Council will be able to identify some areas of improvements for park homes and also perhaps conduct some trials on new products built specifically for park homes which can reduce emissions and heating bills at the same time. And in Parliament Early Day Motion ___ has been tabled calling on the Government to act.

If you would like to add your name to the petition below calling for further action it would be a real help for our campaign:

We the undersigned call on the Government to change the law so that park home residents are able to apply for insulation grants and other measures that help to reduce fuel bills the same as other home owners; and believe that park homes should be classified in the same way as others for these purposes.
