Paul Scriven and Sheffield Liberal Democrats are opposing the planned new Tesco on the corner of Springvale Road and Commonside.

Here is what you can do to support our campaign.

Step 1: sign our petition

We, the undersigned, oppose the Tesco application for the corner of Springvale Road and Commonside. We believe that this will be a disaster for local trade and will cause significant traffic and parking problems in the local area.

We share residents' strong concerns about safety hazards, noise and pollution. We believe that these problems will be worsened by increased traffic and deliveries by large HGVs in what is an existing traffic bottleneck.

Step 2: Object to the planning application
The following link will take you to the Council's planning website: http://tinyurl.com/notesco

Click on "Submit Comments" and enter your name, address and comments. Make sure you tick the box saying that you object to the planning application.

Making your submission more effective

It is important that submissions are written in your own words. However, you could make your submission more effective by making sure that you mention these key points:

1. People visiting the store by car will require parking spaces, which are in short supply locally. The development does not supply any off-street parking and so people will have to park on the street. This will have a negative impact on local residents and busineses.

2. The store will attract an increase in traffic, which will have a negative impact on congestion locally - particularly at the junction of Springvale Road, Commonside and Upperthorpe.

3. Increased traffic will have a negative impact on road safety, particularly at this junction where there is a high volume of traffic and many people crossing on foot.

4. HGV deliveries to the site will cause noise and inconvenience, and could impact negatively on road safety and congestion.

5. The condensing units will generate noise which will have a negative impact on people living nearby.
