A post office counter for Southdown?

Liberal Democrats in Southdown are calling for the Post Office to place a counter inside the local Co-Operative Supermarket on Mount Road.

Local CouncillorPaul Crossley said:

“Having a counter inside another shop would minimize the costs for Post Office Ltd, but provide a vital facility for the people of Southdown.  The Co-operative Society are fully on board as they, like the other shops, have noticed a significant drop in trade since the post office was closed.”

Bath MP Don Foster has campaigned to save post office in Bath, including fighting a battle to save the old Mount Road post office, which eventually closed in 2005.  Don is backing the campaign to have a post office counter in Southdown.

Fellow ward Councillor Dine Romero has said that "A local post office is part of a thriving community."  Many local shops have seen trade drop by 15% since the post office closed down.

I/We the undersigned believe that a post office counter is needed in the row of shops on Mount Road.  Local people need access to a post office, and our shops have suffered a drop in trade since the post office branch closed in 2005.
