Littlehampton Hospital is a pile of rubble
Littlehampton Hospital is a pile of rubble
Littlehampton and surrounding villages have seen populations grow massively over the past couple of decades without a corresponding increase in infrastructure such as health services, public transport and roads.
Littlehampton Hospital was demolished with a rock-solid guarantee that a new community hospital would be built, and the money was in the bank - then the government reorganised the NHS and the promise evaporated.
We need to look at increasing health services locally, rather than making them more distant.
On the 20th September 2007, Liberal Democrats marched with other political parties and ordinary concerned residents to the meeting held by health officials at the Windmill Theatre.

We were promised a hospital in Littlehampton, and since the march and meeting last September we have had a promise given and snatched away again, which we regard as a disgrace to Littlehampton. All three major parties support the building of the Littlehampton Hospital, so it SHOULD BE BUILT!!.

The government has responded to the campaign for a Littlehampton Hospital as follows;-

'Decisions about local NHS services are now taken at a local level.  It is the responsibility of Primary Care Trusts (PCTs), in partnership with Strategic Health Authorities (SHAs) and other local stakeholders, to plan, develop and improve services for local people. NHS South East Coast, the regional SHA, advises that West Sussex PCT is developing its business case in relation to the planned new NHS facility in Littlehampton.  The SHA is working with the PCT to take the scheme forward appropriately.  More information can be obtained from the SHA, whose contact details are available on its website at;-www.southeastcoast.nhs.uk'

We, the undersigned, back the Liberal Democrat campaign to stop the cuts, cut the waste and give local people more say over our NHS.
