Portsmouth Liberal Democrats and Mike Hanocck are campaigning for more to be done by the Government on Global Warming - one of the biggest challenge our planet faces.

It was, for example, reported just a few days ago that greenhouse gases are now at the highest level since pre-industrial times. And scientists predict that if we go on as we are, there will be a 6°C rise in global temperature by the end of the century. And very soon the crucial Copenhagen Summit on Climate Change will be deciding what targets to set for cutting carbon emissions internationaly.

Please support our petition for more to be done by the British Government.

I/We call on the Government to take greater action on cutting CO2 emissions as a matter of urgency and in particular:

To do more in the UK:  sign up to the “10:10” campaign.  Aim for a 40% cut in carbon emissions over 1990 levels by 2020. And 40% of UK electricity should be generated by renewables and other clean technologies by 2020.

To work to achieve agreement for the greatest possible cuts at the Copenhagen Summit: Putting pressure on the USA to commit to larger cuts and working with other EU countries

Support  the use low carbon technologies in developing countries
