“Lack of flexible working lies at the very heart of economic inequality between men and women."
All too often, parents, usually mothers, are forced into low skilled part time work, or to give up work entirely, because of their childcaring role.
There are too many women in jobs beneath their skill level and too few women in the boardroom. Flexible working rights ensure that business does not lose out on this talent and women are not prevented from fulfilling their potential.
At present you only have the right to make a flexible working request - a request that can be turned down if your employer provides a valid business case - if you have a child under the age of 6. However, parental responsibility extends far beyond this.
The Liberal Democrats want the Government to extend the right to make a flexible working request to all parents with children under 18 and do more to promote awareness.
We the undersigned call for the Government to extend the right to flexible working to all parents with children under 18 and call for the Government to do more to raise awareness of their rights.
