Support our campaign to get a fair deal for Cornwall over water charging.
New Image
Cornish homes currently pay the highest water rates in the country. Water bills are on average over twice as expensive as in other regions in the country; despite the region having some of the lowest wages.

A recent review of water charging has highlighted the unfairness of the current system. For example:

- The Cornish people pay for the upkeep of 30% of the nations' coastline, despite having only 3% of its population.

- Bills are over twice as high as in London, the richest part of the country.

However the review proposes nothing to remedy this situation.

Dan Rogerson MP is campaigning for fairer water bills for Cornish homes. Add your voice to the campaign by signing our petition.

We the undersigned oppose the South West's high water charges brought about by Conservative privatisation of the industry, and call on the Government to offer a level playing field so that the poorest communities no longer pay the biggest bills.

"I very much support this petition. Everone in the UK should be paying the same for water." - Y L M

"South West Water has long been the most expensive in the UK, typically double any other water utility.  This is a grossly unfair burden to ask the poorest county in the UK to bear" - JL

"It is unjust that the people who live in one of the poorest parts of the country are expected to bear the whole cost of works to improve one third of the coastline. These works are of benefit to the country as a wholeand the country as a whole should make a reasonable contribution. It is unjust for the whole burden to be left to one of the poorest regions to carry." - R B
