Many people have been shocked by the kind of things and amounts of money that can be claimed by MPs under the current Parliamentary Expenses system. The list of claims is so embarrassing to some MPs that the Labour Government is trying to block citizens from finding out what is on it.

Dr Mark Wright, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Bristol South, says: "I know that most MPs work incredibly hard and are worthy of their jobs. But the news that MPs can use expenses to buy second homes and kit them out at tax-payers' expense will come as a massive insult to the millions of people out there who cannot afford to buy a home at all or who are struggling with interest repayments on their homes. This simply isn't acceptable, and it must stop immediately."

Back the campaign to reform the Parliamentary expenses system by signing our petition.

Petition:

We, the undersigned, believe the current Parliamentary expenses system should be scrapped immediately in order to restore public trust in MPs. The current expenses system is discredited and inappropriate and cannot be reformed by a few tweaks here and there. It should be replaced, from scratch, by an open and transparent expenses system that is in line with that of comparable jobs in the real world - such as that used by executives and directors of businesses that require a lot of travel.
