Plans to develop the Rainbow industrial estate, next to Raynes Park station, were recently outlined at public exhibitions in Raynes Park library.

The owner of the site plans to build a facility to process London’s waste and generate renewable energy through a process known as anaerobic digestion (information about the plans is on www.rainbowecopark.com).

Shas Sheehan, Wimbledon Lib Dem Parliamentary candidate said: "Residents have real concerns about things like: the number of trucks going into the site; the access points for vehicles; noise levels; the way it would look; health and Safety issues due to emissions from the plant; smells and the risk of vermin being attracted to the site.

"I feel the developers must hold a public meeting to reassure residents, answer all our questions openly, and get feedback on what independent environmental groups think about the project."

We feel a public meeting is needed where the developers can outline the project and answer our questions, together with a representative from Merton Council and an independent environmental group such as Friends of the Earth or Greenpeace.
