12,000 more houses and flats planned for Chelmsford between 2009 and 2021; more (maybe much more) by 2031.
Chelmsford's Conservative-run Council plans to squeeze at least 8,000 into the town area and 4,000 on green fields around the edge. The Liberal Democrats believe that this is far too much. Local services are already under strain and pollution is a problem at many major junctions, particularly the Army & Navy roundabout. The Conservative plans are driven by the needs of major, international corporations rather than what's best for local people.
Enough cars are already coming into central Chelmsford on a daily basis, causing congestion, pollution and road safety hazards.
The Lib Dems' preferred solution has always been for (a) some town centre housing so that young people can afford to buy here, and (b) a sustainable, new community on the gravel pits and old airfield north of the A12, north of Boreham.
There are three things you can do to help: 1) Please sign the petition below to support our campaign to protect Chelmsford from over-development.
2) Join our Facebook group http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=10215506635 3) If you consent (below) to receive update emails, we will let you know how you can lobby the Council at the next stages of the process
We oppose overdevelopment of the town centre with too many flats and houses and the urban sprawl of 4000 houses on green fields. The council should promote better local facilities with any development, and cut town centre traffic that causes congestion and pollution.
