Southwell Liberal Democrats are campaigning to get a proper crossing on Ropewalk.
Outside the Co-op there is a wide ramp, which acts like a speed hump. This was built by the Co-op as part of their application for a new store nearly ten years ago.
They also had to pay for a zebra crossing. This money was paid to the County Council.
But the County Council refused to put a pedestrian crossing with Belisha Beacons in! They said that the road was not suitable for one. The Council's own rules stopped it.
However, after pressure from local Liberal Democrats, the County Council has rewritten the rules. Now, it is possible to put up a proper zebra crossing.
The Liberal Democrats have launched a petition to get the zebra crossing put up - using the money the County Council already has in the bank!
To the County Council
We request the County Council to install the promised pedestrian crossing on the Ropewalk, Southwell, as required by the Co-op Store.
