The service we receive as residents of Bristol from Royal Mail is currently inadequate. We are campaigning for Royal Mail to improve the service in one area - that of opening hours of delivery offices for the collection of packages.
Everyone experiences coming home to find a red P739 form from the Postman saying he has been unable to deliver a package - but at the moment you must wait 48 hours before you can even try to collect that package and the delivery offices close at 11.30 am.
Bristol City Councillor Tim Kent says: "In the modern world this service is simply inadequate and second class.
"People coming home from working or collecting the kids from school should be able to collect missed deliveries that day, not have to wait over 2 days. Delivery offices should be open in the evening so we can collect our packages and not closing at 11.30 am.
"It is up to us, the people of Bristol, to make it clear to Royal Mail management that we expect a better service here than we currently receive.
"They talk about their modernisation agenda yet their offices close at 11.30 in the morning. That is not the service we pay for."
Special Delivery packages are charged at as much as £9 yet if not delivered on the first attempt, customers have to wait over 2 days to get them. Most private delivery companies offer evening collection times on the same day as the failed delivery.
We now deserve a better service - if you agree sign the petition below.
