Local campaigner Elizabeth Adams has launched a petition to Birmingham City Council for North Solihull B36 and B37 households.

Elizabeth said in this statement “There has been local outrage at Solihull residents being turned away from the Tameside Drive Recycling Centre and having to travel substantially further away to the site at Bickenhill, thus putting off residents from recycling and using up more fuel for travelling. In this age of environmental awareness, authorities should be working together to encourage recycling and assist residents in the easiest way to do this.”

The Liberal Democrat led coalition at Solihull MBC are committed to resolving this issue, with our new Liberal Democrat Cabinet member for environment, Tim Hodgson working hard on negotiations with Birmingham.

Anyone who would like to sign the petition and offer their support can do so by signing our e-petition below. All e-signatures are valid and will be counted along with the paper copy signatures we have collected on the doorstep. It doesn’t matter if you are a birmingham or solihull resident, many people feel strongly about the matter and all support is welcome.

We the undersigned call on Birmingham City Council to allow residents under Solihull MBC with a B36 or B37 postcode to have usage of the facilities at Tameside Drive Recycling Centre and Refuse Tip (B35 7AG). We also ask that upon allowing the usage to take place for any signs specifying 'Birmingham Residents Only' to be removed or ammended to recognise the new allowances and to stop any further confusion.

Thank you to those who have signed and to Birmingham City Council for reading and taking into consideration this petition. Hopefully this matter can be resolved.
